DEE SPIRO

Board Member

Dee has her master’s degrees in social work and urban planning from the University of Michigan, having gone back to graduate school in her early 30s after a career in public relations. Since getting her master’s degrees, she has worked for the City of Newton for 6 years in community development before transitioning to work in sustainability, first focused on the built environment and now working for an organization called Sustainable Brands.

Dee became familiar with P2P when she worked for the City of Newton (and it was operating as NWW). She was so impressed by the organization and the work that P2P did with clients and the community at large that when she no longer had a conflict of interest, Dee jumped at the chance to join the Board.

Dee has been on the board for approximately 16 years! Her favorite thing about being on the board is getting to interact with and learn from other board members, the staff, and the clients.

Dee supports P2P because we have “a soon-to-be 50-year history of providing the highest level of services to people with cognitive and developmental disabilities.” She feels that the organization’s focus on integrating clients into the community and empowering their independence is best in class. And feels there is an astounding amount of love and care between clients and the P2P staff; “It’s inspiring and heartwarming.”

Dee envisions P2P continuing to put its clients first and always being a leader amongst organizations working with this population.

In her free time Dee enjoys travel, volunteer work and spending time outside, whether going on a hike, to the beach or strolling by the Charles River.
